What is Marine Debris?
- Any man-made, solid material that enters waterways directly through littering in rivers, streams, and storm drains.
- Items such as a discarded soda can or plastic bag that ends up in the ocean harming marine life.
- May sit on the seafloor, get caught on coral reefs, or float on the ocean surface.
- Majority of the lost gear does not decompose in seawater and remains in the ocean for many years.
